Our Crews and Landscape Services
Unbeatable Customer Service:
Our crews in the landscaping, garden maintaining and horticultural services divisions fill a variety of job descriptions and services. From Eastern New Jersey, through Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown, to the outer perimeter of the greater Lehigh Valley the crews are professionally trained and experienced in their horticultural responsibilities. The quality of work and careful attention to detail is demonstrated in the many galleries of landscape before and after photos found on other pages of this site. There are three distinct areas in which they may be providing service for you:
Landscape Maintenance:
We provide many different types of garden services for anyone interested in having their property professionally detailed or totally maintained. The crews prune, dead-head spent flowers, weed, control pests and diseases, apply fertilizers and herbicides, and generally detail gardens up to the level of individual attention required by each account. In the spring, the "hort" crews cut back, clean up, remulch, edge, remove debris and prepare gardens for the start of the growing season. In the fall, they put our collection of gardens to bed. These maintenance services have become a major part of customer service growth and attention-to-detail. The garden service teams are available for hire for special events, spring cut backs, fall cleanups, or any level of regular of regularly scheduled maintenance calls. They can be hired for a specific number of hours that would allow for a triage of care. Or they can be hired for a complete garden project. Call us for rates and specific estimates. We are always accepting new work.
Landscape Installation:
All of the landscaping plans designed by Garden Design are installed by our group of trained landscape installation teams. These crews are responsible for the removal of sod, improvement of all planting spaces, soil conditioning, planting, ponds, walls, hardscape, mulching and cleanup. They install patios, paths, walls, and any kind of hardscape that is designed. They also install our low voltage lighting designs and the irrigation systems in our garden designs.
Unique Nursery Stock
All of the plants used by Garden Design come from our own nursery. We maintain our hard-to-find species from when they arrive by the trailer-load in spring from growers across the United States. Our goal is to use the best and the newest material available in the industry.
The Crew Members:
Our key field employees have worked in the green industry throughout their careers. They have earned recognition for their industry and education. We respect the effort that they give to their jobs and our clients.
Bob Reichert is our Landscape Operations Manager.
He is in charge of all of the employees working from our nursery location in Center Valley. Bob brings 30 years of experience to the team. He is a native of Reading and a Muhlenberg High school graduate. He attended Lehigh University. After gaining years of experience, he began leading crews on extensive commercial hardscape projects. He was responsible for landscape at The Vanity Fair Complex in Wyomissing and managed a 15 employee landscape company. He is the former owner of PondEscapes, a building and maintaining ponds and water feature company. Bob, his fiance', Debbie, and their dog Buffy, reside In Seemsville.
Jim Perna, PCH, serves as our Horticultural Services Director.
He has been with us since 2000 and received the coveted Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist in 2005. He received his Certified Pesticide Applicators License in 2000. This multi-talented professional gardener continues his education on a regular basis with Extension service pest walks, seminars and the annual Penn State/PLNA Winter Conference. He has taken a hands-on pruning course at Rutgers University. At home, his garden has received National Wildlife Federation Certification as a wildlife backyard habitat. In his greenhouse, he starts a lot of his own plants from cuttings or seeds. He is an active "Ponder." Ask him about his Koi. He grows an extensive crop of summer fruits and vegetables. Ask him about his pesto.
Gregory Olawski is a Field Supervisor in our garden maintaining and horticultural services division.
He is very articulate on the subject of gardening with 20 years experience in the industry. His horticultural education includes stints as an architecture student at Penn College of Art with a transfer into the landscape architecture track at Temple. His choice of the last was predicated on his need to have a hands-on working experience at their landscape plant material collection. He got a full-time job offer from the owner of Meadowbrook to take on the nursery at his garden center and the cultivation of his many garden rooms. His education continued with night classes at Temple with a later transfer to Delaware Valley College when his mentor Doug Kane transferred his professorship. Doug's teaching strengths included a passion for ecologically-friendly design and re-introduction of natives to the designer's palette. His high degree of verbal skills has allowed Greg to develop throughout his client base a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine art of landscape design and installation. It is a pleasure to have Greg on our multi-talented Horticultural Services staff.
Ann Kemmerer is a Field Supervisor in our garden maintenance and horticultural services division.
She and Crystal Oswald are a great landscape maintenance team! Ann has been a member of the Horticultural Services team for quite a while. Ann worked for Deco Plant Company in Dallas Texas-a hydroponics company that installed plants indoors. She has worked in a number of gardens for herself and her friends. As she answered the question about why she likes working at Garden Design, she said: "The whole nature thing is what I enjoy most. I'm happiest just playing in the dirt!" We all share her enthusiasm and fun spirit.
Lee Brensinger, Jr is a Landscape Installation Foreman.
He came to us having served for three years in the US Army. He was in the Human Resources division at Fort Hood, TX. His experience in landscaping predates his army service. He, "loves being outside...!" And, he's a big sports fanatic. He is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
As Garden Design passes its 30th year in business, we celebrate with even more achievements, awards and acknowledgements.
